no one leaves home...

Source

no one leaves home
unless
home is just
a few insecure walls
sardonically supporting
a roof
pocked with gunfire
a token door
and a window
framed in betrayal

no one seeks the unknown

indifferent
foreign worlds
unless

there is nowhere else to go

Indeed! it takes a lot to nurture one's home.
Beautifully executed.

Lots of love,

This is a very wise observation about the plight of refugees forced to flee their homes and face the unknown - they could tell us a lot about the heartbreak of being forced into what will forever likely feel like exile. Thanks for reminding us that we are not all fortunate to have a home, such a basic need.

A great truth you've uttered, Gemma, home is definitely not for leaving. It's so sad when home is home no more. Thanks for participation :)

It's good to see the other-side of home, too...thank you.

Yes. A huge problem – but there must surely be a better way to address it than some have chosen! I like the way you present the humanness of this, without polemic.

Yes, the difference between a "house" and a "home"... The difference between "loving family" and just the "people I share a house with".
Well-penned, Gemma!
