if I shrink you...

if I shrink you
into
a package of young, sweet innocence
that you may have been

will I remember you
differently

or will
I lose sight of you ...

will I sour ...

completely

Can we really chose the image of a memory.. shrinked is such an appropriate image to describe it.

Who knew we had to surrender our own heart of hearts to keep from souring "completely"? Acceptance is the hallowing of what gets harrowed in a life. Fine stuff, Gemma.

So terribly, sadly beautiful.

The sorrow of memory is that it is just that, a shadow of reality, not reality--yet in the shrinking, I think we keep what is the essence for us of what mattered--shattering, insightful, and as the prompt asked, truly harrowing poem.

What an interesting reflection on change, or the change we impose on other things (or other people). We can never truly touch something without affecting it a bit. But how will we like it, indeed.

This makes me think how or perceptions of others somehow come together to create an understanding of self.

For me, this was like talking to the child I was. Very sad and yet tender!
